We are seeking a PhD student with a background in biophysics, biomaterials, biochemistry or biotechnology to join our “Immuno-Materials” group and work in an MSCA International Training network on the development of advanced synthetic cell systems.

INM’s research group Immuno-Materials, headed by Dr. Oskar Staufer investigates how microscale cell-like materials can be formed such that they combine multiple life-like functionalities and can be integrated into living systems. For this we apply organoid cultures, bottom-up synthetic biology and artificial tissues to reconstitute immunoregulatory processes for therapeutic applications. In our new project within the ComeINCell Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Training network we invite applications for a

PhD student (F/M/d) on development of synthetic cells model for biomedical applications

positions starting on February 1st 2025 (with some flexibility).

Your task

  • Design and characterize synthetic cells in the form of membrane models and coacervates.
  • Perform proteomics and RNA sequencing experiments.
  • Investigate immunoregulatory interactions between synthetic cells and neuronal cells.
  • Please refer to the ComeInCell website for more information: www.comeincell.org/

Your profile

  • M.Sc. degree in biophysics, biomaterials, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in cell culture and advanced light microscopy techniques.
  • Previous experience with antibody stainings or electron microscopy is beneficial.
  • Very good communication and writing skills in English. German language skills are beneficial but no required.

You will work…

  •  on scientifically interesting and technically relevant challenges in a motivated research group leading the field of synthetic cell applications,
  • in an international doctoral training network: https://www.comeincell.org/
  • in an institute that supports you to perform high-quality research and to present and publish your research results,
  • at the heart of the Greater Region (Germany, France, Luxemburg, Belgium),
