The Materials Synthetic Biology group lead by Prof. Wilfried Weber is offering several positions as

Postdoc in Engineered Living Materials and Synthetic Biology (f/m/d)

in the frame of an ERC Advanced Grant.

By applying synthetic biology principles, you will develop and implement concepts for programming living materials and making them communicate with their environment in a dynamic manner. The aim will be the design of materials that perfectly adapt to internal and external requirements with broad applications opportunities. The work will be embedded in our international and interdisciplinary group with leading expertise in materials-oriented synthetic biology, many opportunities for collaboration and synergies among the members and the projects as well as comprehensive support structures.

 Your Profile

  • PhD with strong experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biomaterials
  •  Master’s degree in biology, materials sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a related discipline
  •  Experience in one or several of the following fields
    • (Engineered) bacterial biofilms / bacterial communities
    • synthetic gene networks in bacteria or mammalian cells
    • Hydrogel-based materials as extracellular matrix
  • Based on your experience, one or the other postdoc position might be suitable
  • Optimally, experience and interest in automated, multi-parallel experimental designs with data-driven optimization
  • Strong problem-solving skills, interdisciplinary thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage ambitious projects with internal and external partners.
